Gene : LOC106144609 Homo sapiens

Name  ? IR4 Yp recombination region Cytological Location  Yp11.2
description  This region is known to undergo non-allelic homologous recombination (NAHR) with a similar region, the IR4 Yq (inverted repeat 4 Yq) recombination region, located about 12.6 Mb downstream of this region, in reverse orientation. This region is part of a large inverted repeat region (IR4), with the other inverted repeat located on the q arm of the Y chromosome. NAHR between these regions as a result of inter-sister chromatid recombination can result in a pseudoisochromosome, where there is a partial duplication of one chromosome arm, and a partial deletion of the other chromosome arm. An individual with a NAHR event in this region was observed to contain a pseudoisoYp chromosome, containing a partial duplication of Yp, and partial deletion of Yq (PMID:23643616), resulting in an azoospermia phenotype. This region contains a meiotic recombination hotspot as well as the mapped NAHR exchange site, WHT5557, named after the individual containing the exchange site within this region (PMID:23643616).
